Subpages are part of the MediaWiki page structure. They are separated with a forward slash symbol (/) from a 'parent' page, as is common in other websites. Subpages are used on Appropedia to organize information specific to projects or other pages on Appropedia. Some benefits of this are:
Organize pages by project[edit | edit source]
Subpages allow you to organize content under your project so that other people can find it easily. You can display a list of these pages on the main page of your project only by using Template:List subpages.
For example, this is a list of subpages under the page Global Surgical Training Challenge:
Reusing common page names under different projects[edit | edit source]
Subpages allow reusing common names for different projects, such as "design," "bill of materials," and "bibliography." For example, the pages Anisa Foundation parabolic solar hot water heater/Design and Zeer pot refrigeration/Design are named identically but exist under different projects.
Personal pages[edit | edit source]
Subpages allow you to create additional pages under your user page. This can help you organize page drafts or to-do lists. A great example of this is the standard "sandbox" page at Special:MyPage/Sandbox, but you can create subpages with different names as well.
Automatic translations[edit | edit source]
Appropedia is testing the creation of automatic translations, which are stored under subpages named by language code (for example, en for English and es for Spanish). You can see a list of these at Category:Automatic translations.
