- Vegetable Gardens: Focused on growing produce for personal or community use.
- Flower Gardens: Designed for aesthetic purposes, often featuring colorful blooms.
- Herbal Gardens: Used to grow herbs for cooking, medicine, or teas.
- Permaculture Gardens: Mimic natural ecosystems to grow a variety of plants sustainably.
A garden may contain:
- a vegetable garden: a section of the garden intended for growing vegetables
- additional crops including fruits and grains
- a flower garden: a section of the garden intended for ornamental plants, often carrying esthetic flowers
- a lawn (not always present though, ie in the case of rock gardens
- micro-orchard: fruit trees that are often espaliered
