Emilio Velis

Emilio Velis is an industrial engineer by education from the University of El Salvador, and has dedicated ten years of his life to organizations focused on social development and volunteer mobilization. His previous experience comes from Habitat for Humanity El Salvador, where he worked for eight years.

Over the past few years, Emilio has also worked with different organizations such as the Latin American Fab Lab Netowrk, Reacción and Fundación Insitu in the design and execution of technological projects and initiatives by using participation as a medium for collaboration with non-technical communities to solve social and environmental problems. He was the first Salvadoran to awarded as an Innovator Under 35 by MIT Technology Review.

As an independent researcher, Emilio has collaborated in a variety of subjects related to openness and collaboration in technology, and is interested in how volunteers in technical and not-for-profit environments can be open and effective.
