Opportunity Definition feedback

Once we know which version of the project you are picking we will be able to have a more accurate name and description.

Much of your background is actually literature review. The background section should be more about the background of your actual project including who it is for, who is helping, what the current state of affairs is. Please link your usernames.

Your problem statement as written is more of a vision statement. Keep that as a vision statement, but make your problem statement much more specific and testable (some of it is currently in your background.). Please also link relevant pages the first time they appear, e.g., RepRap.

progress

Lonny thanks for this guidance last week. Haha. And for letting me know that the discussion section existed in lecture today haha. I had no idea. I will make the appropriate revisions. Im hoping to have Step #1 be the process of the printer , then Step #2 go into the community research and methods of what appropriate/good methods to use. Josh thanks for the link! And the information that you guys have going on. Im going to have a link and statement leading to your guys's appropedia page. Good luck with your ventures as well. Sincerely, J.W.Tuttle.

color printing and Prusa variant

FYI - anything that a Mendell can do with color prints so can a Prusa -- you made the right decision. We put together a new Prusa variant that you might find useful - MOST_HS_RepRap_build - Easier to construct and has a few nice features like less parts for the y-axis print bed and Bowden extruder so you can push up the print speed -- we have made 6 of them at this point so we are fairly confident in the performance -- Joshua 05:44, 18 February 2013 (PST)

Re: Color Printing and Prusa Variant

Joshua, Thanks a lot for your input! I checked out the MOST_HS_RepRap_build, it was very organized and useful. Im curious how different is your variant from the Prusa model? For example, if we decide to get a hardware kit or full kit Prusa model are these modifications something we could do in our construction, or would it not be useful sense we have a whole kit anyway? Also, would it be safe to say that in the construction of our Prusa, your construction instructions for the MOST_HS_RepRap_build would be analogous? Input and response are much appreciated! Sincerely, J.W.Tuttle February 19, 2013

The main changes are:
  • a Lightweight carbon fiber rod y-carriage that has the capacity to increase y-travel to 250mm http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:35596
  • 3mm Bowden extruder and we are using a Lulzbot pre-built extruders Budaschnozzles
  • new z-drive coupling http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:24799
  • There are other minor mods like redesigning the end stop holders using non-standard x-axis ends and the handy little belt terminators for tensioning belts http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:31482
  • Cost was kept down by using the Melzi board but partially offset by the more expensive Budaschnozzle.

  • Thanks again Joshua. much appreciated. I think we definitely can use these parts in our construction.
