Resource and cost reduction is a compelling business case for sustainable action. If expressed in more colloquial language and combined with useful advice, it can also be a useful case for individuals and households.

While sustainability, responsibility and "doing our part" are all important, enlightened self-interest is often more compelling. If reframed as "resource and cost reduction," the question can be changed from "can we afford to?" to "can we afford not to?" Sustainability thinking has not yet penetrated in many parts of the business world, especially more traditional and more competitive industries. Cost reduction, however, is welcome everywhere.
