Though I'm 21 years of age I still feel like a kid. I'm majoring in environmental policy and serving as this years AS president at Cal Poly Humboldt. I enjoy any outdoor activity and anything that spreads some smiles. The best medicine in life is laughter :)
Interests in Technology and the Environment[edit | edit source]
Working with small communities to establish their self sustainability by providing them with the skills necessary to do so. Reducing the overall human impact on the natural environment, especailly in regards to clean water. Learning how to be more sustainable in my own life: now and in the future. Mediating conflicts regarding natural resources and providing clear-cut solutions to the problem.
Experience in Technology and/or the Environment[edit | edit source]
My experience with technology has been very minimal. I have spent a good deal of time with my dad building various structures and working with tools, but I have very little experience with electronic technology. Living in a relatively forested area for most of my life introduced a lot of self-sustaining practices to my daily life(such as chopping wood, growing our own veggies, re using every supply possible to build another structure or piece of art), but most of those have faded away while i've been in humboldt.
Throughout my entire life I have spent a great deal of time hiking and exploring the outdoors. I grew up in the foothill/sierra mountain range and moved up to Humboldt four years ago. Nature has always been an escape from the overwhelming activity in the city, but it is also where i feel the most at home. I know more about myself and the world around me when im not blinded by fast-paced distractions.
In high school I was the director of the sediment group for our creek project. We took samples of local streams, analyzed them at the school, and educated the local elementary schools and outside community about the condition of the water as well as how they could help reduce negative impacts for their own good. Throughout college I have worked as a natural resources rep on AS, interned in the office of sustainability, helped establish a community garden, and have worked on compost diversion projects. As an environmental policy major I realize that i will inevitably have to deal with the interface of technology, environment, and hard-headed people, but I know that there are reasonable solutions
