Alice Peng is currently enrolled at Western University, studying towards a dual degree in Honours Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences and Honours Business Administration at the Ivey Business School.
Alice has previous research experience in cancer research under the Head and Neck Surgery Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where she assisted with interpreting histology test results and administering chemotherapy combination treatments of mouse model tumours as well as maintaining cell cultures and investigating mouse gene analytics following qPCR procedures to observe how select mutations affect cancer proliferation in vitro.
During her time at Western University, Alice has worked in Orthopaedic Surgery at Roberts Research Institute to design and carry out an investigation on hip implant design risk factors under the Biomedical Imaging Department. There, she worked with a database of over 2500 hip implant retrievals. She has also examined total knee arthroplasty patella CT scans to compare preoperative and postoperative surgical alternations to contribute to clinical understanding of patient pain metrics. Alice assisted on a metal corrosion analysis project on hip implants in collaboration with Surface Science Western and the Chemistry Department at Western University using the Redlux optical coordinate measuring system to visually map out damages of hip implant components.
Finally, Alice has engaged in business policy research at the Ivey Business School to contribute to a preliminary literature review on how social media can impact the public perception of COVID-19 vaccine safety and uptake efficacy. She explored challenges such as rapid and unclear policy changes and polarizing views between key stakeholders such as healthcare providers, policymakers, and pharmaceutical companies that contribute to vaccine hesitancy.
