The idea is to use solar power to heat an absorption refrigerator's evaporator. The heat doesn't need to be high, I guess, as a small difference in temperature is enough to have atmospheric moist condensed, and we don't want the collected water to freeze. I think one could use a salvaged fridge from a recreational vehicle to provide the cooling system, and a Fresnel lens to provide the heat ; the most complicated part would be a sun-tracking device. I wonder if an old inefficient but simple and low-cost cooling system such as ether or water vapor could be used ? I'm thinking of a ball-shaped, black painted, air-tight evaporator to be left in the sun, with maybe a pressure valve allowing the vapor out to a shaded condenser... suggested project.
