Small masses of playdough are positioned within the Penrose drain and tied off on either end to simulate an ectopic pregnancy.
Fabrication techniques[edit | edit source]
Other
Fabrication notes: Playdough is filled inside the Penrose drain and either side of the "ectopic material" is tied off with either thread, string, or elastic bands. Playdough will dry out if left exposed to air for too long so be sure to secure each end of the Penrose drain if you intend on making these simulator components ahead of time.
Interactions[edit | edit source]
Cutting (scissors), Grasping, Visual inspection, Suturing
Interaction notes: The playdough, or "ectopic material" is scooped out of the Penrose drain and removed from the patient.

Fidelity notes: The Penrose drain very closely matches the feeling of cutting through and suturing a fallopian tube. The playdough does a good job of mimicking the ectopic material, however, it is a bit difficult to clean from the laparoscopic instruments. Also, playdough hardens if left out to dry, unlike the tissue.
