DescriptionSystem Change not Climate Change - Climate Strike Melbourne 21 May 2021 (51194633421).jpg
Student climate strike in Melbourne on Friday 21 May 2021. Estimated 20,000 students and supporters attended a rally in the Treasury Gardens and a march around CBD streets. This was one of many protests held around capital cities and in regional centres around Australia that totalled an estimated 50,000 people.
It comes after the Federal Government under Prime Minister Scott Morrison continued subsidies for gas in the budget and the announcement of $600 million to build a gas fired 660MW power station at Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley region, against the advice of numerous energy experts and regulatory authorities.
It has comes in the wake of the IEA in their energy roadmap to 2050 advising no new fossil fuel infrastructure should be funded or built.
Australia presently has no Covid community transmissions, although Covid-safe precautions were in place with QR registration code and face masks widely in use.
