Why Gallbladder disease?[edit | edit source]
This module is designed to teach surgeons, and procedural trainees the principles of evaluation of a patient with gallbladder disease and their management through laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery in a resource-constrained setting.
The module begins with a review of preoperative concepts of gallbladder disease through an interactive case scenario on a web-based platform. You will then be able to learn and practice laparoscopic psychomotor skills on a box trainer that you can build yourself (with included easy-to-follow build instructions). You will also be able to use the video assessment feature to gain feedback on your developing psychomotor skills. When you have completed the entire module successfully, you will receive a certificate of completion.
For those who are new to laparoscopy, we expect that it will take you ten to twelve hours to complete the module. However, it can be completed faster for those with more experience or slower for those who need more time to practice technical skills. Perfect preparation makes for safe practice.
After you have completed this module, we expect that you will be confident and competent in the pre-operative management of gallbladder disease and the basic technical principles to perform surgical management laparoscopically.
