Detail of Rosinda García Cabrera, 34, farm plan she has developed with CRS ASA program (Water Smart Agriculture). Her family owns a small farm in Cerro Bueno Community, San José municipality, La Paz department, Honduras. One of the future plans is to diversify the types of food she plants to increase the family’s food security: “The whole family is excited with the beans harvest results. My children are happy, they tell me. We have the problem here that we are going to buy a quintal of corn, we have to go down the entire field and go up again with the quintal of corn. So, they tell me, Mom, it's something we're not going to do anymore. They are happy with all the grains that have been produced by ASA, which are the beans that were harvested, 300 pounds, quite a bit. We used to harvest around 70 pounds it’s a big difference. Right now on the farm there are bananas, peach trees and fruit trees thanks to the ASA project. With time and with the ASA techniques, in the future I dream of improving. For example, in crops, we are no longer going to plant as we did before. It is something that is going to help us in a great way. So, further into the future, over time, we wish we could have a water reservoir, a pig pen, a chicken pen, something that we do need, as vulnerable families that we are. With a water reservoir, we would help ourselves having a fish farm and having water for our crops. My vision is to have avocado trees, yucca, live barriers, that is something that is also important. Not everything is going to be done at once, it is a process that one goes through”.
