My name is Melissa Pawson and I am a senior at Cal Poly Humboldt. I am majoring in Environmental Science with an emphasis in Energy and Climate Change. I love to hike and go to the beach and Humboldt County offers so many opportunities to connect with the natural world [1].

My interests in appropriate technology are in the most applicable way to use energy, especially alternative and renewable energy. I am also interested on spreading appropriate technologies that allow others to be self-sufficient like gardening and constructing parabolic solar cookers to make food with.

I don't have a lot of experience with appropriate technology and would love to learn about how to construct and use it. I will greatly enjoy my project of restoring the solar hot water heater at the Arcata Educational Farm.
