Blanca Evelin Pérez de Tiznado lived in El Guaje with her two children and her husband in the El Guaje Lotification Community. Early on this morning of tropical storm Amanda, her husband woke up and discovered that a slope had given way, causing the water to enter the house. He immediately alerted his family andthey managed to take refuge in a safe place. Moments later he suffered cardiac arrest and passed away.
His family had to evacuate and then return in order to bury him. The family remembers him with great affection and for his courage."if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have known what conditions we would be in."That is why Blanca is grateful for the support provided by the Un Regreso Digno a Casa Project. With the multipurpose fund, she decided to start a business: a local store that would allow her to cover her financial needs now that she is facing as a single mother. From May 31 to June 6, tropical storms Amanda and Cristóbal struck in rapid succession, affecting approximately 150,000 people (30,000 families). Through a study carried out by CRS, the communities mentioned that three elements prevented them from returning to their home: feeling unsafe, damage to the home and / or household items, and lack of ability to meet basic needs, including food. The Un Regreso Digno a Casa Project intervention included the multipurpose cash transfer to 1,000 homes, the repair of 870 homes, and the provision of essential household supplies in the event of loss. TheProject was financed by the Government of the United States and implemented by CRS and Fe y Alegría in El Salvador.
